North Route

On this route, you will see Wuyuan’s unique landscapes such as the Rainbow Bridge and Wolong valley in addition to some of the best-preserved ancient villages with typical Hui-style architecture. The scenic spots are spread out in three directions starting from Qinghua Town, it’s best to tour this route if you have your own car.

Sixiyan Village → Rainbow Bridge → Yantian Village → Wolong Valley → Lingyan Cave → Shicheng Village

Sixiyan village consists of Sixi and Yancun, the two best-preserved historic villages in Wuyuan. The village reflects a period of the Ming and Qing Dynasties when Wuyuan’s rich lumber and tea merchants were the most prosperous and successful. Trailing through the winding alleys of the ancient village, you will enjoy seeing the exquisite stone carvings, wood carvings, and brick carvings in the courtyards of many old houses and be amazed by the complex carving techniques and cultural implications. The surroundings of Sixiyan village are very idyllic, ideal for leisure cycling and walking.

Zhangcun Village is located in Sikou Town, about 13 to 15 kilometers away from Wuyuan County, China’s most beautiful countryside. Zhangcun Village is an ancient village surrounded by mountains and rivers, not only Zhangcun has beautiful rural scenery, but also with a traditional village setting and a famous wooden bridge. It is an excellent place for photography and artists, and is also a favorite spot for tourists.

Xichong Village is located in the northwest of Wuyuan, about 20 kilometers away from the town center. It has a history of more than 700 years. A large number of outstanding merchants emerged in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. During the heyday, they returned to the village to settle down and built more than 40 ancient Hui-style buildings in Xichong Village. These well-preserved houses and buildings are the highlight of the village. In addition to the cultural and architectural heritage, the natural scenery around Xichong Village is also very beautiful. Since it is not yet officially open to the public, Xichong village is a real gem to visit in Wuyuan. 

Rainbow Bridge

Built more than 800 years ago, this covered bridge is the longest in the area of ancient Huizhou. The engineering features of the bridge and the exquisite design of the cover embody the wisdom of the ancient Chinese. Rainbow Bridge is a landmark of Qinghua Town, where it serves as the gateway to some very popular attractions on North Route.

Know as the perfect country life, Yantian Village has the classic ancient village setting: a village lies against lush wooded hills, a clear-to-bottom river running under a stone bridge, with a wooden water mill working leisurely non-stop. A thousand-year camphor tree stands at the village entrance, forever guards and protects villagers. Many old houses have a fish pond in their courtyard, where beautiful red carps are kept. The quaint and laid-back village scene will relax your mind, slow down your pace, a perfect escape from your busy and stressful city life.

Wolong Valley is a natural four-season tourist site with grotesque rocks, emerald ponds, clear streams, and grand waterfalls. The photogenic walk leading up to the top of the valley showcases the area’s diverse flora and fauna, with the sound of a waterfall splashing on the bottom rocks and morning mist surrounding the valley, Wolong valley is a mysterious and magical place all year long.

Lingyan cave is a special type of landform, the whole area has 36 karst caves. In each cave you will find many scenic spots decorated with colorful artificial lights, making it a very exciting place to explore.

The morning fog and its spectacular fall color are two major attractions of this village. From October to November, before the leaves drop, the maple trees and the Chinese tallow trees turn from green to beautiful shades of red, gold, orange, and purple. The magnificent autumn display attracts many tourists and photographers to this small village.
