Millennia-Old Xiangao — A Travel Destination Where Ancient Huizhou Heritage Meets Modern Experiences
Xiangao Town, located in Wuyuan—known as “The Most Beautiful Countryside in China”—is an old town that integrates Huizhou culture, picturesque landscapes, and modern tourism experiences. Xiangao was first established in the Tang Dynasty (740 AD), originally named Qinghua Town, it was later relocated to Xiangao Town(present-day Ziyang Town). With a history of more than 1,200 years, it is truly a millennium-old town and an important birthplace of Huizhou culture.
The Xiangao Town has been mainly developed into two major attractions: the Xiangao West Lake Cultural and Tourism Block (西湖凼) and the Xiangao Scenic Area. The Xiangao West Lake Scenic Area opened in May 2025, while the Xiangao Scenic Area opened on August 10th, 2026.

A Magical Night in the Forest
Hidden within the newly-opened Xiangao Town is a mysterious forest realm where you can follow the enchanting glow of mushrooms and fireflies, holding your breath as you venture deeper into the unknown. Make your way through more than a dozen fantastical challenges, including the Ant Kingdom and the Magic Laboratory, before plunging into the romantic, dreamlike world of One Thousand and One Nights.

Fairytale Valley

Wangjiawu Intangible Cultural Heritage Craft Village
Wangjiawu Intangible Cultural Heritage Craft Village combines the charm of a traditional Huizhou village with workshops dedicated to local crafts such as lantern making, Huizhou ink, She inkstones, bamboo weaving, and oil-paper umbrellas. With shops at the front and workshops at the back, visitors can immerse themselves in hands-on experiences, creating their own traditional crafts while connecting with the warmth and spirit of thousand-year-old craftsmanship.
VR Experience
The second floor features a VR Sci-Fi Adventure Area, offering smooth visuals designed to minimize motion sickness. On the first floor, Light & Shadow Go-Karts combine racing with immersive visual effects, providing a fun and photo-worthy experience.
Huancuitang Hui-style Garden
Huancuitang was designed in the style of Huizhou gardens from the Ming Dynasty. Rockeries and flowing water create the refined elegance of a traditional Huizhou garden, while lush mature trees form a natural backdrop and winding corridors trace the water’s edge. Stroll among the pavilions and corridors and immerse yourself in the tranquil beauty of this traditional garden setting.
The immersive live performance “Recreating Huancuitang” brings the historical figures vividly to life. Visitors become part of the story, experiencing the elegance of Ming Dynasty opera up close while discovering the unique garden culture and heritage of ancient Huizhou.
Panlong Fortress
The Xiangao Scenic Area is situated along the ridge of Mountain of Dragon in Wuyuan, with Panlong Castle perched at the highest point of the scenic area, visitors can enjoy sweeping views of Wuyuan, with the shimmering waters of the Xingjiang River winding through the landscape like a jade ribbon.
More than a geographical high point, this is also a historic lookout spanning a thousand years. Traces of its past—from the smoke of battle at this military stronghold to legends of protecting the sacred mountain—remain subtly visible among the bricks and tiles of the ancient town.
Climb to the heights and take in the sweeping views, as the ancient town’s past and present unfold below. At Xishan’s First Tower, the live-action performance “Guarding the Dragon Vein” brings history to life. Through this immersive experience, visitors can discover the story of the Xiangao commanders who rallied the town’s soldiers and civilians to repel foreign invaders and bravely defend the town’s legendary Mountain of Dragon.
A Taste of Traditional Huizhou Life: Xiangao West Lake Scenic Area, where food stalls, folk performances, and a lively night market come together in one vibrant experience. As the lanterns light up at dusk, it feels as though you’ve stepped back a thousand years, immersing yourself in the simple, authentic atmosphere of everyday life in ancient Huizhou.

From Wuyuan Train Station: Take Bus #1 or #4 to Zhuzi Pedestrian Street, then walk to Xiaogao Town Visitor Centre.

Taxi/DD from Wuyan Train Station to Xiaogao Town Parking lot is around 10 minutes, Xiangao Town entrance is cross the street from the parking lot.
Self-Driving
Self-driving visitors can set their navigation to “Wuyuan Xiangao Attraction Parking Lot.” Xiangao Visitor Centre is cross the road from the parking lot, very convenient.
