Longwei Village

The small village of Longwei is located in Xitou Township, Wuyuan County, Jiangxi Province. It sits at the end of the Wulong mountain range in Wuyuan, close to the Jiangling Scenic Area. It serves as a gateway stop to Wuyuan’s popular “Jiangling Scenery” tourist route. Surrounded by mountains and water, it features continuous stretches of pastoral countryside.

Longwei Village was once a core production area for the well-known Longwei inkstones. The village has preserved many traditional Hui-style buildings, characterized by grey bricks, white walls, and horse-head gables. A small river runs behind the village, with water as green as jade and crystal clear. Spring and autumn are the best seasons to visit—spring for viewing golden canola flowers, and autumn for enjoying red maple leaves.

With relatively few tourists and limited commercial development, Longwei Village is ideal for those seeking a quiet and relaxing getaway.

Although small, Longwei Village is an ancient village in Wuyuan known for its Hui-style architecture, easily recognized by its whitewashed walls, black or grey tiled roofs, and distinctive horse-head gables. In the village, you can still see some of these well-preserved traditional buildings.

Longwei Village is located at the foot of Jiangling Mountain. In spring, vast fields of canola flowers surround the village, making it part of the scenery along the way to Jiangling Scenic Area. During peak season, staying here allows you to walk to the scenic area entrance and avoid traffic congestion.

Starting mid to late October each year, the row of osmanthus trees at the village entrance—light yellow and golden—fills every alley with their fragrant scent. In November, red maple leaves are another highlight of Longwei Village. When the mountains are fully colored, with red leaves reflected in the water and fishermen casting their nets, Longwei Village becomes a classic destination for enjoying autumn in Wuyuan.

Behind Longwei Village runs a river with crystal-clear water. In autumn, the reflections of the red maple leaves are especially beautiful, and the fishermen’s net-casting performances are quite entertaining. Children love jumping around on the fish-scale weir, enjoying a sense of freedom and joy that’s hard to find in the city. In summer, you can sit on a traditional bamboo raft on the river—cool and relaxing. Who wouldn’t enjoy such a laid-back trip!

In the early morning or at dusk, take a walk along the riverside and watch the village homes with cooking smoke rising gently. In the height of summer, stroll along the hiking path hidden in the bamboo forest—escaping the heat while getting some exercise. What could be better than that?

If you can’t come here in the best season, that’s okay. Throughout the year—whether it’s sunny or rainy—walking along the country paths of Longwei Village and slowing your pace, you can always feel the tranquility and beauty of the Wuyuan countryside.

There is both a tea house and a café in Longwei Village, perfect for taking a break or simply unwinding. The tea house, located within Wuyuan Aimu Wellness Homestay, features a beautiful courtyard and a lovely fish pond. Its distinctive inkstone décor reflects the cultural heritage of Longwei Village. The café, situated in Ranwu Boutique Inn, offers a relaxing spot where you can sip your coffee while enjoying the riverside view from its glass observation deck.
