Discover Wuyuan

Xichong Village

Xichong Village is located in the northwest of Wuyuan, about 20 kilometers away from the town center. It has a history of more than 700 years. A large number of outstanding merchants emerged in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. During the heyday, they returned to the village to settle down and built more than 40 ancient Hui-style buildings in Xichong Village. These well-preserved houses and buildings are the highlight of the village. In addition to the cultural and architectural heritage, the natural scenery around Xichong Village is also very beautiful. Since it is not yet officially open to the public, Xichong village is a real gem to visit in Wuyuan.

Xichong Gate Tower

Xichong Village has 90% of its residents with surname Yu, it only makes sense that the largest building in the village is the Yu Family Ancestral Hall. This magnificent building is a well representative of Hui-style architecture at its best, a must visit.

Stone carvings, wood carvings and brick carvings are key features in Hui-style architecture, these features are well represented in the village houses and buildings. Pay special attentions to those intricate and exquisite wood-carved windows and doors, you will be amazed by the techniques and skills of those talented craftsmen.

A very simple lifestyle – early to bed and early to rise; growing vegetables and rice; fishing; drying crops.  Villagers here still live a self-sufficient life. If you want a slow life for a change, then come here.

Walking in the village is therapy. The canola flowers in spring, the lotus ponds in summer, the changing forest color in autumn, and the peace felt in winter, every season has its own charm, whenever you visit is a good time.

Villa Vila Masva is a modern homestay that was converted from a century-old house inside Xichong Village.  It has 18 well appointed rooms with beautiful rural scenery, cultural heritage, and warm, thoughtful housekeeping service. Guests especially love their coffee latte and the unique Chef’s Lotus Pond Dinner.
