Wuyuan At A Glance

      Wuyuan is a county in the northeast of Jiangxi province in China. It borders the provinces of Zhejiang to the east and Anhui to the north. Established during the Tang Dynasty (618-907), Wuyuan County has over 1,000 years of history. Wuyuan historically belonged to Huizhou, a region rich in unique Hui-style architecture and Huizhou culture. The best time to visit Wuyuan is from March to April when the canola flowers are in full bloom. November to December is fabulous to appreciate the changing color of the Fall season and the special golden harvest scenes in rural villages. There are also many famous attractions near Wuyuan such as Yellow Mountain, Sanqing Mountain, Mt. Lushan, and Mt. Wuyi. Wuyuan is only three and half hours from Shanghai by high-speed train, it is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of cosmopolitan city of Shanghai.

Natural Beauty and Great Ecological Environment

        The breathtaking scenery of canola flowers in spring gains Wuyuan a reputation as the most beautiful countryside in China. Natural, authentic, peaceful, Wuyuan is a very special part of China. Nearly unspoiled by tourism and the attending infrastructure, the landscape is one of the most beautiful and accessible. Wuyuan is a well-known tea town because of its great ecological environment, it is also home to more than 300 species of birds, most notably are extremely rare blue-crowned Laughingthrushes and the adorable but fierce hunting pied falconets known as panda birds by locals.

Ancient Huizhou Architectures and Rich Cultural Heritage

        With more than 1000 years of history,  Wuyuan is an essential part of the ancient Huizhou Culture, with a series of ancient villages retaining the traditional Hui style architecture. Hui style architecture is one of the ancient Chinese architectural styles typically built with black tiles and white walls along with artistic decorations made of bricks, stones, and wood. Wuyuan has a reputation as a Book Town, many scholars and talented people in history have left a deep cultural legacy. Folklore culture like Hui Opera, Nuo Dance, rural village customs and festivals are still performed from time to time, making it one of the rare places to learn and witness the Chinese culture.
